Elinor Stutz, founder and CEO of Smooth Sale, specializes in sales training for entrepreneurs, network marketers and beginning salespeople. After 13 years of working in corporate sales, Elinor now reveals her self-taught approach to sales that leveraged her success beyond that of her most seasoned colleagues.

Beginning her career as a copier saleswoman with a phonebook as her only source of leads, Elinor was able to rise past the chauvinism in her male-dominated office and turn ice cold leads into trusted partners. She went on to become the top salesperson in her region. As she advanced her career to networked printers and then hi-tech, recognition in the form of President’s Club, and Regional and National Awards accompanied every step.

Elinor’s past corporate client roster includes Visa, Sony, Hewlett-Packard, and U.S. Geological Survey, as well as a growing number of high-tech companies in Silicon Valley. Committed to passing on her knowledge to others, Elinor emphasizes relationship building and adapting sales techniques to suit individual personalities. As an author, instructor, public speaker, and radio guest, she has helped countless individuals and companies incorporate this practice into their businesses.

Elinor helps entrepreneurs, network marketers and beginning salespeople (0-5 years) to build a dynamic business. She has taught business people across the country to overcome their fears and turn their stormy sales cycle into a Smooth Sale.

Stop Whining Ladies!

Ladder_1What is it that keeps women from moving up the career ladder and securing the top positions in the corporate world? And why, when it comes to rewarding good work, do women still earn less than their male counterpart for practically the same job? Is it that men just happen to perform better than women in the workplace, or is the corporate environment slanted in favor of men with the proverbial "glass ceiling" firmly in place? Perhaps it's neither. Could it possibly be that many women are not hitting a glass ceiling, but are actually donning a "glass helmet?"  This age old question still remains unanswered. Or does it!

Here are some interesting facts about women in business:

  • Women purchase, or influence the purchase of 83 percent of all consumer goods
  • Women make over 80 percent of all health care decisions and purchase two thirds of health care products.
  • Women represent 46% of the labor force, yet women are a mere 5.2% of the top earners. Averaging only earn 73% of what their male counterparts earn for the same position.
  • Yet, only 8 (a measly 1.6%)of Fortune 500 companies have females CEOs.
  • There are 9.1 million women owned businesses in the US, yet women have access to roughly 5% of the $36 billion venture capital pie.

Molly_1It doesn't make pretty reading! But fear not ladies. This week we speak to Molly Dickinson Shepard, co-author of Stop Whining and Start Winning: 8 Surefire Ways for Women to Thrive in Business.   Listen to Alan Rothman of BOS interview Molly as she digs deep and tells us how women can -- and must -- make some crucial changes in order to make their mark. Learn the difference between the language of self-promotion as opposed to the language of bragging and how to stop looking like the secretary at a meeting and start acting like a CEO.
